MRF was contracted by URS Australia to review and update the marine species profile information data sheets and review impact assessment and mitigation measures for the South of Embley Matters of National Environmental Significance (MNES) and Environmental Impact Statement on behalf of Rio Tinto Alcan.

MRF’s desktop scope of works included reviewing the existing write-ups and enhance by filling in additional detail on distribution and population, life history, habitat and feed behaviour, and threats for Hawksbill, Flatback, Olive Ridley, Leatherback and Green turtles; the Dwarf, Green and Freshwater sawfishes; the Speartooth Shark, Estuarine Crocodile, the Dugong, Indo-Pacific Humpback and Australian Snubfin dolphins, and the Bryde Whale.

MRF was also tasked with reviewing the Impact Assessment and Mitigation Measures and provide technical advice and suggestions on the appropriateness of the impact assessment, avoidance and mitigation measures, and residual effects.
